Success story of Harishchandra K., who built a life as a warden in a special needs school despite suffering a spinal cord injury
Harishchandra K., originally a resident of Karkunja village in Puttur, was born on April 29, 1993, as the fourth son of late Sheenappa and late Mrs. Leelavathi. He completed his primary education at the Government Higher Primary School in Ragikumeri and then his high school education in Kumbrattu, Puttur. Later, he completed his B.Sc education at Philomena College, worked as a secretary at a milk depot in Savanoor, and then started working as an accountant at a showroom in Puttur for 1 year. He also worked as a Consultancy Chemist at KMF in Mangaluru.
While leading a happy life, on October 9, 2018, when he went to cut a branch of a tree at his house, he lost his balance, fell from the tree, and suffered a spinal cord injury. Subsequently, he received initial treatment at City Hospital, Puttur. He came to KMC Attavar Hospital in Mangaluru for further advanced treatment. During his treatment at the hospital, he was informed about his spinal cord injury. He was made to realize that he would no longer be able to walk and could only move around using a wheelchair. He stayed in the hospital and received treatment.
After receiving treatment, he spent 1 year confined to his bed. Later, he underwent Ayurvedic treatment and physiotherapy in Puttur. After obtaining information about Sevabharathi's Sevadham, he visited Sevadham to receive further treatment.
Here, he underwent rehabilitation for 3 months, learning how to manage pressure sores and how to shift from a wheelchair. Recovering slightly, he obtained self-care and medical kit facilities and continued his life in a wheelchair. Currently, he has been successfully working as a warden and accountant at Dharitri Special Needs Children's Residential School in Tumkur for the past 2 years. Living independently and managing his own work, he earns about Rs. 10,000/- per month, leading a self-reliant life and shaping his life as an inspiration to everyone.

ಹರಿಶ್ಚಂದ್ರ ಕೆ. ಇವರು ಮೂಲತಃ ಪುತ್ತೂರು, ಕರ್ಕುಂಜ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ನಿವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, 29ನೇ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 1993 ರಲ್ಲಿ ದಿ. ಶೀನಪ್ಪ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ದಿ. ಲೀಲಾವತಿ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಚತುರ್ಥ ಪುತ್ರರಾಗಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಸರಕಾರಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆ ರಾಗಿಕುಮೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತದನಂತರ ಪ್ರೌಢಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಪುತ್ತೂರಿನ ಕುಂಬ್ರಟ್ಟುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. ನಂತರ ಫಿಲೋಮಿನಾದಲ್ಲಿ B.Sc ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಸವಣೂರಿನ ಹಾಲಿನ ಡಿಪೋದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ನಂತರ ಪುತ್ತೂರಿನ ಶೋರೂಂನಲ್ಲಿ 1 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಮತ್ತು ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ KMF ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ಸಲ್ಟೆನ್ಸಿ ಕೆಮಿಸ್ಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಹೀಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗಿ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ 9ನೇ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 2018 ರಂದು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮರದ ರೆಂಬೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯಲು ಹೋದಾಗ ಆಯಾತಪ್ಪಿ ಮರದಿಂದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ಬೆನ್ನುಹುರಿ ಅಪಘಾತಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾದರು. ತದನಂತರ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪುತ್ತೂರಿನ ಸಿಟಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಮುಂದಿನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಕೆಎಂಸಿ ಅತ್ತಾವರ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೆನ್ನುಹುರಿ ಅಪಘಾತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಇನ್ನುಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆದಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಹಾಗೂ ಗಾಲಿಖುರ್ಚಿಯ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಮಾತ್ರ ಚಲಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೆಂದು ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದು ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡರು.
ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದ ನಂತರ 1 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದಲ್ಲೇ ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದರು. ನಂತರ ಪುತ್ತೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯುರ್ವೇದಿಕ್ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ಫಿಸಿಯೋಥೆರಪಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ತದನಂತರ ಸೇವಾಭಾರತಿಯ ಸೇವಾಧಾಮದ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸೇವಾಧಾಮಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದರು.
ಇಲ್ಲಿ 3 ತಿಂಗಳ ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಒತ್ತಡ ಗಾಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ನಿವಾರಣೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು, ವೀಲ್ಚೇರ್ನಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ ಶಿಫ್ಟ್ ಆಗೋದು ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಚೇತರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಸೆಲ್ಫ್ಕೇರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಮೆಡಿಕಲ್ ಕಿಟ್ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಗಾಲಿಖುರ್ಚಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಸಾಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಇದೀಗ ತುಮಕೂರಿನ ಧರಿತ್ರಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಚೇತನ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ವಸತಿ ಯುತ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾರ್ಡನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಅಕೌಂಟೆಂಟ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಳೆದ 2 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸ್ವತಃ ತಾವೊಬ್ಬರೇ ಇದ್ದು ತನ್ನ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ತಿಂಗಳಿಗೆ ರೂ. 10,000/-ದಷ್ಟು ಸಂಪಾದನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬಿ ಜೀವನ ಸಾಗಿಸಿ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಬದುಕು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
