Success story of Nandan H.B. of Chikkamagaluru who was rehabilitated in Sevadham and shaped his life through a nursery

Nandan H.B., originally a resident of Devadana village in Chikkamagaluru Taluk, was born on October 25, 1995, as the son of Mr. Chobanna and Mrs. Jaya. After completing his primary education at Devaragudde Ashram, and his high school education at Government Higher Primary School, Kanathi, he was pursuing his PUC education in Balehonnur when he had to drop out halfway due to health issues. He then traveled to Bengaluru for work. For 6 years in Bengaluru, he stayed and worked with the Vande Mataram Samaj Seva Karnataka, Bengaluru, handling all tasks.

While making his living, Nandan, who had finished his work and returned from Bengaluru to his hometown, went to cut a branch of a tree next to his house on June 5, 2021. While cutting the branch, he lost his balance and fell. At a young age, this completely changed the direction of his life. He was immediately taken to Prashamani Hospital in Koppa. For further advanced treatment, he was brought to Father Muller Hospital in Mangaluru. During his treatment at the hospital, they informed him, "You have suffered a spinal cord injury, you will no longer be able to walk," and made him realize he could only move using a wheelchair. After hearing this, darkness seemed to envelop his life. His mindset deteriorated to the point of feeling that the path of his life had ended right there. During this difficult time, his brother Naveen and his friends stood by him as a backbone. They stood by his side through all his struggles. After surgery, he stayed in the hospital and received treatment for 1 month. After his treatment, he spent 2-3 months confined to his bed. This tragedy at such a young age consumed his mind. Just as Nandan had lost hope, thinking he could do nothing and his life was over, he was introduced to "Sevadham."

In 2023, he spent a 3-month journey at Sevadham. He underwent rehabilitation, learned how to heal pressure sores and how to shift from a wheelchair, gradually recovering. Receiving many facilities from Sevadham, he found hope that he could achieve something in life. After rehabilitation, he started a nursery right there in Devadana. He nurtures small plants himself, adds fertilizer, and sells them once they grow a bit larger. He also plans to start a self-employment business selling bakery snacks using a machine provided under the shelter of the SELCO Foundation and a NeoMotion wheelchair with an attached cart. His step forward to shape a self-reliant life is an inspiring story for everyone. Let us all wish him success.

ಸೇವಾಧಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನಗೊಂಡು ನರ್ಸರಿಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರಿನ ನಂದನ್ ಎಚ್.ಬಿ.ಯವರ ಯಶೋಗಾಥೆ

ನಂದನ್ ಎಚ್.ಬಿ. ಇವರು ಮೂಲತಃ ದೇವದಾನ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ನಿವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ 25, 1995 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಚೋಬಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಜಯ ದಂಪತಿಯ ಪುತ್ರರಾಗಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ದೇವರಗುಡ್ಡೆ ಆಶ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ತದನಂತರ ಸರಕಾರಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಾಲೆ ಕಣತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೌಢ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಬಾಳೆಹೊನ್ನೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪಿಯುಸಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನೇ ಅರ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಕೈ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ನಂತರ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಪಯಣ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದರು. 6 ವರ್ಷ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಂದೇ ಮಾತರಂ ಸಮಾಜ ಸೇವೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಇವರ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದು ಎಲ್ಲ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ತನ್ನ ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಸಾಗಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನಂದನ್ ರವರು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ಊರಿಗೆ ಬಂದಾಗ 5 ಜೂನ್ 2021 ರಂದು ಮನೆಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮರದ ರೆಂಬೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯಲು ಮುಂದಾದರು. ಮರದ ರೆಂಬೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ವೇಳೆ ಆಯಾ ತಪ್ಪಿ ಕೆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿದ್ದರು. ಎಳೆಯ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಅವರ ಜೀವನದ ದಿಕ್ಕನ್ನೇ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ತಕ್ಷಣ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೊಪ್ಪದ ಪ್ರಶಮನಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದರು. ಮುಂದಿನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಾಗಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಫಾದರ್ ಮುಲ್ಲರ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ 'ಬೆನ್ನುಹುರಿ ಅಪಘಾತ ಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆದಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ' ಹಾಗೂ ಗಾಲಿಖುರ್ಚಿಯ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಮಾತ್ರ ಚಲಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೆಂದು ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಈ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ಇನ್ನು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕತ್ತಲೆಯೇ ಆವರಿಸಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ನನ್ನ ಬದುಕಿನ ಹಾದಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಮುಗಿದು ಹೋಯಿತು ಅನ್ನುವಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಹಾಳುಗೆಡವಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆನ್ನೆಲುಬಾಗಿ ನಿಂತದ್ದು ನಂದನ್ ಅವರ ಅಣ್ಣ ನವೀನ್ ಮತ್ತು ಗೆಳೆಯರು. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲೂ ಜೊತೆಯಾಗಿ ನಿಂತು ಸಾಥ್ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದು 1 ತಿಂಗಳ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದ ನಂತರ 2- 3 ತಿಂಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಮಲಗಿದಲ್ಲೇ ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಕಳೆದರು. ಎಳೆಯ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಆದಂತಹ ಈ ದುರ್ಘಟನೆ ಅವರ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನೇ ಆವರಿಸಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ಇನ್ನು ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಏನೂ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದು ನನ್ನ ಜೀವನ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಮುಗಿದು ಹೋಯಿತು ಎಂದು ಆಸೆಯನ್ನೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ನಂದನ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯವಾದದ್ದು "ಸೇವಾಧಾಮ."

2023 ರಲ್ಲಿ 3 ತಿಂಗಳ ಪಯಣವನ್ನು ಸೇವಾಧಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದರು. ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಒತ್ತಡಗಾಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ನಿವಾರಣೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು, ವೀಲ್‌ಚೇರ್ ನಿಂದ ಹೇಗೆ ಶಿಫ್ಟ್ ಆಗೋದು ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಚೇತರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದರು. ಸೇವಾಧಾಮದಿಂದ ಅನೇಕ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾದರೂ ಸಾಧಿಸಬಹುದುದೆಂಬ ಭರವಸೆಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡರು. ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡ ನಂತರ ದೇವದಾನದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ನರ್ಸರಿ ಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗಿಡವನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಪೋಷಿಸಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಗೊಬ್ಬರವನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದೊಡ್ಡದಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾರಾಟವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸೆಲ್ಕೋ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ ನವರ ಆಶ್ರಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದಂತಹ ಯಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯೋ ಮೋಷನ್ ವಿಥ್ ಕಾರ್ಟ್ ಅನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬೇಕರಿ ತಿಂಡಿಗಳ ಸ್ವ-ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಮಾಡುವ ಆಲೋಚನೆಯನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬಿಯಾಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನ ವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮುಂದಾಗಿರುವುದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇವರ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸೋಣವೇ.
