"I choose to be unstoppable" - Success story of Niranjan Neerlige V. who overcame disability with self-confidence
Niranjan Neerlige V is originally from Davanagere. Currently, he resides in Bengaluru. His mother, Mrs. Hampamma, is a homemaker, and his late father, M.N. Veerabasavaiah, retired after serving in the Davanagere Police Department. He is the youngest of ten children. Niranjan lost his father while he was studying in high school. Having faced many hardships at a young age, he completed his high school in Davanagere and pursued his PUC in Bengaluru. Niranjan joined Bapuji Engineering College in Davanagere for a degree in Civil Engineering. Although not very serious about his studies initially, Niranjan was influenced by the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and decided on a goal in life. Securing the second rank in engineering gave new wings to his dreams. Later, he obtained a postgraduate degree in Space Science from IIT Bombay. He found a good job and was working in Mumbai. However, it was his desire to work abroad. But fate had a different game to play; the accident that occurred just as he was preparing to go to America changed the direction of his life. So, what was the incident that occurred in his life?
On November 13, 1994, while returning home after finishing his daily work, he had a severe fever. Coming to the porch of his house with a high fever, he didn't know what happened, and within moments, he fell down from the fourth floor of the apartment balcony. Everyone there immediately admitted him to the hospital for first aid. The examining doctors called this condition "Delirium", where a person in this state is semi-conscious and has no awareness of what is happening around them. The doctor said that a person suffering from a severe fever is likely to face such accidents without even realizing it. Consequently, he suffered a spinal cord injury, lost control of the lower half of his body, and faced a situation where he was completely bedridden. He got tired of being hospitalized day after day. Yet, he hadn't given up hope in life. Finally, one day, the doctor's words shattered his dreams entirely. The doctors made him realize that he could not walk anymore and could only move using a wheelchair. Niranjan's dreams, holding many hopes and aspirations, felt like they were crushed into the ground all at once. For someone who wanted to work in America, he faced a situation where he couldn't even take a single step. What to do next? What can I possibly do? Many such questions began to haunt him. However, deciding that he had to overcome this situation and rebuild his life anew, Niranjan Neerlige told himself, "I choose to be unstoppable."
The incident in his life is proof that if one path in life closes, new paths open up. Never letting go of his determination, he firmly believed he could achieve something, got out of bed, and shaped his life through a wheelchair.
After working in various corporate companies for 12 years, Niranjan started self-employment and became a prominent figure as a skills trainer, motivational speaker, and author. He holds the distinction of traveling to 5 countries, including America, and providing professional skills training to thousands of people, and soft skills training to employees of IT companies and multinational corporations. Never lagging behind in any subject, he forged ahead with his relentless hard work and founded his own company called Excel Plus Service Consultation.
Building his life as a role model for everyone, Niranjan stood strong against the hardships he faced without losing heart at any point. He held the self-belief that the notion "I cannot do anything" was a lie. The nurse who took care of him held his hand as his life partner. They adopted a nine-month-old child (Pranav). However, when Pranav was four years old, Niranjan lost the relationship with his wife. Managing his son and building his life while moving forward, it would not be wrong to say that his son Pranav stands as his backbone in every way today. Niranjan's achievements are immense, having handled much embarrassment, helplessness, hardships, pain, and insults in life. Recognizing his achievements, he has been honored with several awards, including the Rotary Diversity Award. He has documented the journey of his life, the path he walked, and the hardships he faced in a 220-page book titled "I Choose to be Unstoppable". The Kannadi Sevabharathi organization also stands with us at every step as a backbone in the camps conducted for disabled people suffering from spinal cord injuries. We are eternally grateful for his encouragement... Remembering the challenges Niranjan overcame at every step of his life fills one with wonder and pride.

ನಿರಂಜನ್ ನೇರ್ಲಿಗೆ ವಿ ಯವರು ಮೂಲತಃ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯವರು. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಇದೀಗ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗೃಹಿಣಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ತಾಯಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಹಂಪಮ್ಮ, ತಂದೆ ದಿ. ಎಂ.ಎನ್.ವೀರಬಸವಯ್ಯ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆ ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಇಲಾಖೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ನಿವೃತ್ತರಾದವರು. ಹತ್ತು ಜನ ಮಕ್ಕಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರೇ ಕಿರಿಯವರು. ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರು ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ತಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಸಣ್ಣ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಅನೇಕ ಕಷ್ಟವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿದ ಇವರು, ಪ್ರೌಢಶಾಲೆಯನ್ನು ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಪಿಯುಸಿ ವ್ಯಾಸಂಗವನ್ನು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯ ಬಾಪೂಜಿ ತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರಂಜನ್ ಸಿವಿಲ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಪದವಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಅವರಿಗೂ ಓದಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿರದ ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರು ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ವಿಚಾರಧಾರೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿತರಾಗಿ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರಿಯನ್ನು ನಿಶ್ಚಯಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡನೇ ರ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದು ಇವರ ಕನಸುಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೊಸ ರೆಕ್ಕೆ ಮೂಡಲು ಕಾರಣವಾಯಿತು. ಮುಂದೆ, ಬಾಂಬೆ ಐಐಟಿಯಿಂದ ಅಂತರಿಕ್ಷ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆಿದರು. ಮುಂಬೈನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ, ವಿದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಆಸೆ ಇವರದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ವಿಧಿಯ ಆಟ ಬೇರೇನೇ ಇತ್ತು ಅಮೆರಿಕ್ಕಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಸಿದ್ಧತೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದ ಅವಘಡ ಬದುಕಿನ ದಿಕ್ಕನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಿತು. ಹಾಗಾದರೆ ಅವರ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆ ಆದರೂ ಏನು?
ಅಂದು 13 ನವೆಂಬರ್ 1994 ರಲ್ಲಿ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ವಾಪಾಸಾಗುವ ವೇಳೆ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿಪರೀತ ಜ್ವರ. ತೀವ್ರ ಜ್ವರದಲ್ಲೇ ಮನೆಯ ಮೊಗಸಾಲೆಗೆ ಬಂದ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಏನಾಯಿತೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಕೆಲವೇ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಾರ್ಟ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಬಾಲ್ಕನಿಯ ನಾಲ್ಕನೆಯ ಮಹಡಿಯಿಂದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರೆಲ್ಲರು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಇವರನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗಾಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದರೂ, ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಇದನ್ನು ಡೆಲಿರಿಯಮ್ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ ಈ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಅರೆಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಆತನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪನೂ ಅರಿವು ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ವಿಪರೀತ ಜ್ವರದಿಂದ ನರಳುತ್ತಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ತನಗೇ ಅರಿವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಇಂತಹ ಅಪಘಾತಗಳಿಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಗಳಿರುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದರು. ಹಾಗೇ ಬೆನ್ನುಹುರಿ ಅಪಘಾತಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾಗಿ ಸೊಂಟದ ಕೆಳಭಾಗ ಸ್ವಾಧೀನ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಹಾಸಿಗೆ ಹಿಡಿಯುವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೂ ಎದುರಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆವಾಸ ಮಾಡಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಬೇಸತ್ತು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೂ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಭರವಸೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕೊನೆಗೊಂದು ದಿನ ವೈದ್ಯರ ಮಾತು ಇವರ ಕನಸನ್ನೇ ನುಚ್ಚುನೂರಾಗಿಸಿತು. ನೀವು ಇನ್ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆದಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಗಾಲಿಖುರ್ಚಿಯ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಮಾತ್ರ ಚಲಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೆಂದು ವೈದ್ಯರು ಮನವರಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಅನೇಕ ಆಸೆ ಆಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರ ಕನಸು ಒಂದೇ ಸಮಯಕ್ಕೆ ನೆಲಕ್ಕೆ ಬಡಿದಂತಾಯಿತು. ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಆಸೆ ಇದ್ದ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯನ್ನು ಇಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಎದುರಾಯಿತು. ಮುಂದೇನು ಮಾಡುವುದು? ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಏನು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿದೆ? ಎನ್ನುವ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳು ಇವರನ್ನು ಕಾಡಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿತು. ಆದರೆ, ಈ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಬರಲೇಬೇಕು, ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಬದುಕು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲೇಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ನಿಶ್ಚಯಿಸಿ, 'ಐ ಚೂಸ್ ಟು ಬಿ ಅನ್ಸ್ಟಾಪೆಬಲ್' ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡವರು ನಿರಂಜನ್ ನೇರ್ಲಿಗೆಯವರು.
ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ದಾರಿ ಮುಚ್ಚಿ ಹೋದರೆ ಹೊಸ ದಾರಿಗಳು ತೆರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಇವರ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದ ಘಟನೆಯೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ. ತನ್ನ ಛಲವನ್ನು ಬಿಡದೆ ನಾನು ಏನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಸಾಧಿಸಬಲ್ಲೆ ಎಂಬ ಹಠ ತೊಟ್ಟು ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು ವೀಲ್ ಚೇರ್ ಮುಖಾಂತರವೇ ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು. ವಿವಿಧ ಕಾರ್ಪೋರೇಟ್ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 12 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ ಬಳಿಕ ಸ್ವ - ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರು ಕೌಶಲ ತರಬೇತುದಾರರಾಗಿ, ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಕ ಮಾತುಗಾರರಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಲೇಖಕರಾಗಿ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಂತಹ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ. ಅಮೆರಿಕ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ 5 ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಸಿ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಜನರಿಗೆ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಕೌಶಲ ತರಬೇತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾಹಿತಿ-ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಮತ್ತು ಬಹುರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಕಂಪನಿಗಳ ಉದ್ಯೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೌಶಲ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಹೆಗ್ಗಳಿಕೆ ಇವರದಾಗಿದೆ. ಯಾವ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಹಿಂದುಳಿಯದೆ ಇವರ ಅವಿರತ ಶ್ರಮದಿಂದ ಮುನ್ನುಗ್ಗಿ ಎಕ್ಸೆಲ್ ಪ್ಲಸ್ ಸರ್ವಿಸ್ ಕನ್ಸಲ್ಟೇಷನ್ ಎಂಬ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಕಂಪನಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿದರು.
ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಮಾದರಿಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡ ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರು ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಧೃತಿಗೆಡವಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ ಬಂದಂತಹ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿನಿಂತು. ತಾನು ಏನನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸ ಬಲ್ಲೆ ನನ್ನಿಂದ ಯಾವುದು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮಾತು ಸುಳ್ಳು ಎಂಬ ಆತ್ಮವಿಶ್ವಾಸವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರು. ಇವರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನರ್ಸ್ ಇವರ ಬಾಳಸಂಗಾತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೈ ಹಿಡಿದರು. ಒಂಬತ್ತು ತಿಂಗಳ ಮಗು (ಪ್ರಣವ್) ವನ್ನು ದತ್ತು ಪಡೆದರು. ಆದರೆ, ಪ್ರಣವ್ಗೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷವಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ನಿರಂಜನ್ ಪತ್ನಿಗೂ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಆಗ ಮಗನನ್ನೂ ಸಂಭಾಳಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ತಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕನ್ನೂ ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಮುನ್ನಡೆದ ನಿರಂಜನರಿಗೆ ಈಗ ಮಗ ಪ್ರಣವ್ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಬೆನ್ನೆಲುಬಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದರೆ ತಪ್ಪಾಗಲಾರದು. ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕ ಮುಜುಗರ, ಅಸಹಾಯಕತೆ, ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ನೋವು ನಿಂದನೆಗಳನ್ನು, ಸಂಭಾಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಂತಹ ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರ ಸಾಧನೆ ಅಪಾರವಾದದ್ದು.. ಇವರು ಮಾಡಿದಂತಹ ಸಾಧನೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ರೋಟರಿ ಡೈವರ್ಸಿಟಿ ಅವಾರ್ಡ್ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಭಾಜನರಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕಿನ ಪಯಣವನ್ನು, ಅವರು ನಡೆದು ಬಂದ ಹಾದಿಯನ್ನು, ಪಟ್ಟ ಕಷ್ಟವನ್ನು "ಐ ಚೂಸ್ ಟು ಬಿ ಅನ್ಸ್ಟಾಪೆಬಲ್" ಎಂಬ 220 ಪುಟಗಳ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕನ್ನಾಡಿ ಸೇವಾಭಾರತಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯು ಬೆನ್ನುಹುರಿ ಅಪಘಾತಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾದ ದಿವ್ಯಾಂಗರಿಗೆ ನಡೆಸುವಂತಹ ಶಿಬಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಜೊತೆ ಕೈ ಜೋಡಿಸಿ ಬೆನ್ನೆಲುಬಾಗಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದು ಸಹ ಇದೆ.. ಇವರ ಈ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಕ್ಕೆ ನಾವೆಂದಿಗೂ ಚಿರಋಣಿ.. ನಿರಂಜನ್ ರವರು ಬದುಕಿನ ಪ್ರತಿ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಟಿ ಬಂದ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನೆಸಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅಚ್ಚರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
